Simple Hat
This hat pattern is very simple and extremely customizable. It is designed to get you used to knitting in the round and using stitch markers to complete a project.
For customization ideas, consider adding cables, adding stripes through a second (or more) color, or changing the shape through experimenting with stitch decreases.
The Pattern
CO stitches in a multiple of 4. If you are uncertain how big you want your hat, start with 124 and work up/down from there.
Ribbing
Row 1: k2, p2 to end of row, place marker
Row 2: slm, k2, p2 to end of row
Knit 3" or until your brim is the desired length. Knit each row after until you reach 8" or until you wish to start the curve of your hat. Keep an eye on the amount of yarn you have left. For longer hats, you may start running short if you make this section too long. Don’t worry, though, you can extend your yarn by adding a second color into the mix, creating stripes, or simply finish with a different color and have a fun splotch of color on the top of your hat.
Row 1: k30 (or total stitches/4 - 1), k2tog, place marker. Repeat to end of row.
Row 2: k entire row.
Repeat to last 8 stitches. Feed yarn through all stitches and cinch to bind. Weave in your ends.
