Summer Patterns and Crafting Season
When you think of the perfect time to sit down and work on your crafting projects, you probably think of winter and fall. The weather is getting chillier, holidays are coming up to hand out gifts, and there’s not as much daylight to spend outside. However, if you’re a dedicated crafter, especially if you make a lot of handmade gifts, you probably start a lot earlier.
Looking for supplies is usually easiest during summer craft fairs and farmers’ markets, especially for wool and silk colorways. However, if you’re looking to expand, I’ve noticed a lot more cotton and linen yarn hitting the market just in time where they shine best - summer! I personally love a good cotton shawl for evenings around a summer campfire, since it wicks away moisture if you sweat without getting heavy like wool. Linen is also a great fabric in general, although it’s not easy to work with for beginners and is even more touchy as a yarn, floss, or thread.
Cookie Tin deals mostly in wool because it’s easy for beginners to work with and is appropriate for most projects. Our fabrics are cotton for the same reason. However, if you’re looking to expand your skillset or just looking for a summer-ready top or headscarf, you can modify any pattern to fit any season you like.
And remember, if you’re making gifts for the winter, it’s better to start now. Nobody likes crunch time or developing a strain injury!
